Maybe in cold weather. These little engines just are meant to run on plain gas and oil. You degrade the rubber seals by putting to many additives in the mix Frogslayer Well-Known Member. If your 2 stroke is jetted right with a good spark plug you won't need starting fluid even at farenheit.
Just choke. In a low compression rich running engine I could see some gains with it but probably not worth the money. Better off just shaving your head and jetting right with a decent exhaust pipe in my opinion.

Tried 1 gallon of 81 octane and 1 gallon of 93 octane; the higher octane gas actually slightly decreased my performance, which makes sense considering the very low compression ratios of these Chinesium engines and that higher octane gas burns a little slower.
Results were as expected. Engine has just finished break in period miles , and is running great. With the starting fluid, there was definitely no decrease in performance. I feel like I was producing a bit more power, but hard to say for sure.

Thread starter windthrown Start date Jan 30, Jan 30, Was looking at some saws on Ebay that had been test-started with starting fluid. I have seen some 2-stroke engines get scored doing that ether type fluid. Talking with my nephew, he says that he uses WD as starting fluid, and there is no scoring or risk of seisure with that stuff.
I recall that when he was a kid he used to light that stuff on fire when my brother and I were fishing on the Columbia River and he was bored. It is certainly flamable, and has good lubrication qualities. CRC also makes a good starting fluid as I recall. They say on the can that they are safe for 2-stroke engines.
